'Like' - Max, Caroline & Stacey

So, like have you ever like heard yourself speak and ever like realized how many times you like say the word 'like'?

Ayto argues that the unnecessary use of the word 'like' originated in the US during the late 1960s, namely 'the valley' an area in California which had heavy influence on pop culture in America and subsequently the world. Nowadays the use of the word 'like' has become embedded within the figure of speech of budding young teenagers. Even one of the world's most influential figures to young teenage girls uses this word profusely...

Language experts have found that one of the most common reasons for the constant use of the word 'like' is as a filler word during conversations. David Smith offers an article demonstrating the unnecessary use of the 'like' over different age demographics. He uses linguist Mark Liberman's investigation to provide the statistical truth of the use of 'like.

Whilst teenagers are becoming more aware of this 'issue,' it still continues to proliferate and teenagers lack the care to fix this 'heinous crime.' Social networks, such as Facebook, acknowledge this through group pages iterating the very existence of the issue.
